How to start meditating

Venue and time this week:  In sync with our new Fall-Winter hours our Sunday Meditation/Discussion are this Sunday October 29, 2017, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. This Sunday’s meditation is facilitated by Greg at Moksha Yoga, London Ontario, Canada.  No half hour drop-in meditation on Tuesday October 31, 8 – 8:30 pm, due to shortened Halloween hours at Moksha.

Schedule:  Sunday’s meditation, 7:00 – 7:30 pm will involved some introductory techniques for meditating, visiting a beach and exploring sensations of body and breath.  Break for chat and mindful tea 7:30 – 7:45 pm roughly; 7:45 – 8:30 pm: Discussion on the topic, How to start meditating , facilitated by Greg, will  explore different ways to start meditating regularly. All are welcome to either or both of these events.

In our topsy-turvy world establishing a regular meditation practice is difficult. We explore and resources for structuring a typical initial week of practice; to help you get going, without judgement. For example, there are excellent programs, books, apps, web sites. We survey and discuss some of these.

A great resource is Tara Brach’s website and in particular her page on How to meditate

A wonderful example of a great book about an introductory 8 week program, is Williams and Penman’s:

The London Mindfulness Community (LMC) is a community of mindfulness enthusiasts.  Our meditations are designed to be accessible to those who drop in occasionally.  These topics are presented in a self-contained way and will be posted on our website (usually by the previous Thursday). Those wanting to know more about integrating mindfulness into daily life, can benefit from our Sunday Discussions.  Our meditations and discussions are free, and gratefully accept donations to help with materials and training
